The two different types of passwords used in PDF files are, and will always be, a source of confusion.

The OWNER PASSWORD is used to control what you can do with/to the PDF file, but you do not have to know it in order to open and view the file. If the owner password is in play, looking at the document’s security properties will tell you what you can’t do. With the right software or a website such has www.pdfunlock.com, the owner password can be removed instantly.

Supported Platforms

The developers are regularly testing on the following platforms:

• Ubuntu 10.04 (x86/32, x86/64)
• Windows (x86/32) with Visual C++ Express 2008/2010

Additionally, we believe that the code should be running on these other platforms, but we don't have the resources to test on them regularly:

• recent Linux distributions (x86/32, x86/64)
• Mac OS X (x86, PPC)

People have reported success with Cygwin on Windows, but this is not a tested platform.

Free-OCR.com is a free online OCR (Optical Character Recognition) tool. You can use this service to extract text from any image you supply.

This service is free, no registration necessary. We also do not need your email address.

Just upload your image files. Free-OCR takes either a JPG, GIF, TIFF BMP or PDF (only first page).

The only restriction is that the images must not be larger than 2MB, no wider or higher than 5000 pixels and there is a limit of 10 image uploads per hour.
